Apprenticeship Program
-
The Institute of Biblical Anthropology offers a course of education called an apprenticeship, which is designed to be intensive and as such, one can complete it comparatively quickly. It is a certification and differs from conventional higher education in that it is based on the Master/Apprentice style of education, in which a student learning a trade or skill studied closely with a master craftsman. This approach diverges from the conventional collegiate model, which employs not only the professor, but also a hierarchy of deans, administrators, and other officers, in an effort to make attainment of a degree possible. In this program you study with a recognized scholar to hone an understanding of the Bible through anthropology.
The programs here are designed to be completed quickly. The apprenticeship can be taken at leisure of course, but you can complete your study in six months and attain a journeyman certificate, Master study can be completed in as little as three months. In less than a year, you can complete a course in Biblical studies. Other programs can take as long as two years and more. The IBA program is designed to put you "in the field," as it were, in less than a year.
The apprenticeship programs allow you to complete and provide proof of a course of Bible study. With the ordination option (under development), you can also become a licensed minister of the Gospel. Other companies may provide you materials to study on your own, but at the IBA you have the opportunity to study under the tutelage of a scholar in the Biblical world and a licensed minister.

Courses in the apprenticeship curriculum are essentially readings courses. The assignments consist of readings (appx.50-100 pages per week) and informed interaction in an online format. Once you have applied for classes/a program, you will be given instructions to request addition to particular course classrooms.
Once accepted, online interaction with other students and the instructor is then possible. The instructor may post questions for discussion, video, audio, or helpful links and essays (in any combination) to facilitate learning.
The courses are driven by the student's desire and discipline to read assignments and apply the knowledge, and the instructors availability to answer questions in chat and via email.

Did the disciples get a degree? Did early Christians get a degree as they led churches from their homes? The answer to these and the title question of the page is "no." Education toward a degree is fantastic, because education and study enhance ministry, demonstrably. However, there is no scriptural prerequisite for ministry other than the calling and a desire to study the word of God. This brief course of study is designed to put you on that track if you feel the call to be ordained.
